Reflections on Gratitude and Growth

pen with text Today i am grateful for

In this time of giving and gratitude, I’m reflecting on my first year of business under the inclusion AMPLIFIED brand. I’ve been in the field of communication for almost 25 years and have been doing the work of inclusion for 15, but this formal endeavor is relatively new.

During the week of Thanksgiving, I want to focus on growth, gratitude, and giving.

Growth

In 2024, I set some goals primarily centered around starting a viable business and establishing a baseline brand. I’m pleased to say that I was able to exceed my goals further than I could have imagined, and I’m grateful for the support of those who helped along the way and the growing community of inclusion AMPLIFIED followers.

I’m also excited to launch a new resources page. While it’s still under development, I hope it will serve as a valuable tool for families. I’m open to any suggestions for additional resources to include.

Gratitude

I will be forever grateful to several people who supported me in the early days of inclusion AMPLIFIED and who continue to be my source of strength.

First and foremost, my family. My husband puts up with my 4 a.m. writing and 6 a.m. sharing of ideas, and my kids are my ever-evolving source of inspiration. I’m also thankful for my sister, who has spent countless hours listening to my hopes, dreams, and plans.

My inclusion warrior colleague, Tim Villegas, was one of the first people to encourage me to step out on a limb from my very part-time freelance status to actually “hang up my shingle” and establish a formal business. My dear friend and talented graphic designer, LouAnn Lamb, designed the most beautiful and relevant logo for this brand, setting the tone for the start of an amazing journey.

And then the rest of you joined me on this journey toward a more inclusive world.

So, thank you all.

Giving

As I share my gratitude for those who helped me get started, I want to highlight some organizations I will be supporting this season. These organizations are all making great strides in the work of inclusion.

Baltimore Area Special Needs Hockey, Inc.

Baltimore Area Special Needs Hockey, Inc. is a dynamic and inclusive organization dedicated to fostering a love for the sport of ice hockey among players of all ages and skill levels. With a strong focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, the program offers a supportive environment where athletes can thrive on and off the ice. By promoting diversity and inclusion, the program aims to create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone, regardless of their experience. My son has found the most tremendous community on this team. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, the Baltimore Saints provide opportunities to grow, compete, and make lasting friendships in the sport of ice hockey.

First Presbyterian Church of Westminster

First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, where I am a member, stands out for its unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community. The church has cultivated a space where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together, united in their shared values of compassion and service. This dedication to inclusivity is not just a motto; it is reflected in the church’s outreach initiatives, which actively engage with the surrounding community to identify and address local needs. The church’s approach to community engagement emphasizes deep listening and collaboration, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.

The church is currently working on some initiatives that we hope will expand our inclusion outreach efforts, fostering transformation through collective action.

Creating Collective Impact

As we celebrate this season of gratitude and giving, I am reminded of the incredible impact we can make when we come together as a community. These and many other organizations are not just doing vital work; they are fostering environments where everyone is included and valued. By championing these initiatives, we not only uplift those who are directly involved but also strengthen the fabric of our entire community.
